1) ☁️ Ian Fischer’s astonishing oil paintings of clouds

Ian Fischer does hyperrealistic, large oil paintings of clouds. They are truly mesmerizing; he paints them as if you were in the air, regarding them horizontally, like an aerial peer — so it’s like looking out the window of a jet from inside a dream that’s 80% adjacent to reality, but not quite.

You can see a ton more of his work at his web site or his Instagram feed. He’s been doing the work for 16 years; last year the Denver Post profiled him …

He has gone through phases over the years. I’ve seen Ian Fisher paintings that look like realistic renderings of National Geographic magazine layouts, almost scientific in nature. But he’s also an abstractionist who feels free to take liberties with the reality before him. His paintings are fact-based fiction that usually start with the goal of recreating photographs he takes himself from rooftops or airplanes. Though…
