Something that folks in the comments here have pointed out, which I hadn't considered, is that Linux seems to work better with older computers -- like the one I have it installed on. With newer models, Linux seems to struggle to manage the hardware.

Which makes sense, right? With an older computer, the Linux community has had a loooong time to figure out all the driver madness necessary to propel the hardware; with a newer computer, less time to do that ...
