Yep -- there is inherent danger every time we ride a bike in an urban environment, or on an intercity road with cars!

I've only been hit by a car twice -- once back in the early 90s when I was in my 20s in Canada; the car totally destroyed the front forks of my bike, but thankfully didn't hit my body full-on. It was mostly my mistake, that accident; I'd checked the way was clear before easing into an intersection, checked the other way, and then eased out ... but should have re-checked the first way in the intervening time. My knee was stiff from being slammed up against the car, but thankfully nothing serious emerged from it.

Then a few years ago a car was being driven by a student driver and rolled up on a curb just ahead of me, pushing me off the road and onto the sidewalk. This time thankfully I wasn't hurt at all, but it was a near miss!
